An Illustrator at heart, and a glass craftsman by trade, Michael Martin has been in pursuit of a variety of hot glass processes since his first introduction to glass in 2012. Michael attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated in 2016 with his BFA in Craft and Material Studies. Since exiting the University he has worked exclusively in metal fabrication and hot glass.
Wearing many hats, he has found a balance between his own art production and facilitating the works of other Richmond, Virginia local artists who work in metals and hot glass. In his own work, Michael combines centuries old Venetian techniques with his own contemporary process to render his drawings in glass. Here chaos and precision intersect to create a body of work that is entirely unique.
